Each year TALC receives several requests to endorse or oppose state legislation. We typically endorse a handful of bills that are well aligned with our coalition's mission and Platform. In order to expedite the process of considering bills for support and to ensure that we have the information needed to make a well-informed decision on each measure, we've developed a streamlined endorsement request process.

If you would like TALC to take a position on a bill, please follow these steps:

1) A TALC Member Group must fill out an endorsement request form on the bill and submit it to TALC. If your organization is not a Member of TALC, fill out and submit the request form anyway. When you do, include a note asking TALC staff to help you identify a Member Group that could sponsor the request. Send the completed form as an email attachment to info@transcoalition.org.

2) TALC staff will review endorsement requests and contact you with any questions.

3) The TALC Board  will vote on the TALC position at it's next bi-monthly meeting.

4) Whoever submits the endorsement request form will be responsible for:

  • responding to questions from TALC staff or Board members about the bill's merits

  • drafting the support letters after a position is taken

  • tracking the bill over time

  • reporting back to the coalition periodically on the bill's progress and when further action is needed.

ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR LEGISLATIVE INFORMATION SHARING

In addition to endorsing legislation, TALC provides an opportunity for legislative "information sharing" between groups in the coalition, regardless of whether TALC endorses these bills. For Regional meetings, we invite TALC Member Groups to bring handouts (one or two pages, maximum, please) on bills that their organization is sponsoring or following closely. Bring copies to the next bi-monthly regional meeting
or send them to TALC staff to distribute at the next meeting.
