This draft platform is to help implement the Smart Growth vision that came from 2002 regional workshops. The platform took many of the suggestions given at TALC meetings, TALC Board of Directors, and from leading groups such as Greenbelt Alliance, Urban Habitat, Urban Ecology and Non-Profit Housing Assoc. of N. CA.
This platform will be transmitted to state elected leaders, regional agencies, and members of the Bay Area Alliance for Sustainable Communities to evaluate areas where this is an overlap of interests. The platform may, therefore, help form the basis for common campaigns between a broad range of interest groups.
Support Local Smart Growth Development
Many community and faith groups throughout the Bay Area are working to build affordable housing, promote transit oriented development and revitalize urban centers.
* Support these groups’ efforts in your community by going to meetings, displaying lawn signs or speaking at council meetings.  Contact Jeff Hobson for a list of groups working on Smart Growth in your area.

* You can also help by distributing copies of A Region of Neighborhoods, the Coalition’s Smart Growth primer.  This colorful 6–page booklet describes the benefits of Smart Growth in clear, easy to understand language, with pictures of Smart Growth developments around the Bay Area.  It can be downloaded (Adobe Acrobat PDF file) and reproduced on any color copier, or contact robert@transcoalition.org to request one or more copies by mail.

* Join TALC’s Smart Growth Campaign for mailings and updates - it’s free! TALC's unique combination of high-quality policy analysis and grassroots participation has helped us to become a key player in regional planning issues. Help us as we create regional incentives for Smart Growth and end taxpayer subsidies for sprawl.  Together, we can build a more sustainable and socially just Bay Area.
