1) Announcements/Revisions to Agenda

2) High Speed Rail Presentation, Q & A, and Discussion 
margin-left:.5in"> -       Rod Diridon, Chair of the California High Speed Rail Authority, gave a presentation about the latest on the High Speed Rail Authority proposal, including alignments, costs, ridership estimates, and pending legislation.  For more info on the proposal go to www.cahighspeedrail.ca.gov  margin-left:.5in"> Action - consider support for all or any portion of the current proposal: margin-left:.5in"> Coalition Resolution: The Transportation and Land Use Coalition conditionally endorses the High Speed Rail Authority (HSRA) Plan, and specifically SB 1856 (Costa), subject to the following conditions: ·     Put all train stations in existing downtowns ·     Use existing train track rights of way wherever possible ·     Do not run train tracks through protected parks, wilderness, sensitive habitat, or natural areas, unless there is an acceptable mitigation plan ·     Use the most direct routes that do not conflict with the other principles ·     HSRA shall not draw on existing sources of transit capital or operating funds

3)      Full Speed Ahead: Proposal for Regional Advanced Bus System
-       Project Express, a research project sponsored by the Coalition, is finalizing a report that takes the Coalition’s proposal for Bus Rapid Transit in the Bay Area to the next level.  For a preview of the draft go to www.projectexpress.org/report  Contact the Coalition’s Seth Schneider for more information: 510.740.3150

 

Action postponed:  Consider having Coalition co-release the report with Project Express

4)      Coalition South Bay Housing Report
        Overview of the innovative South Bay Housing report that the Coalition is putting together, to be released June 25.  For a draft of the report e-mail Kimberly Strickland at kim@transcoalition.org
 
5)     State Legislation is HOT! 
        -Kristi Kimball of STPP reported on AB 1058, and what you can do.

AB 1058, the bill designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles, is up against strong lobbying from the auto industry and supporters. They have flooded legislative offices with thousands of phone calls and letters opposing this bill! Local legislators Dutra and Canciamilla have recently changes their support to: Dutra is neutral, Canciamilla is against.

*  The Coalition membership has not taken an official position, but the Steering Committee and Legislative Subcommittee have both endorsed the bill. *



6)      Campaign for Fair BART Parking Charges
 -
At the April Coalition meeting the membership voted to support parking charges  instead of fare increases or service cuts for BART. 

 

* Special BART hearing is being held on May 23 to consider revenue options *
