1 Announcements -
·Greenbelt Alliance hiring Field Rep, see their website:
www.greenbelt.org/getinvolved/jobopps.html
· (Irvin Dawid) Institute of Trans Engineers - MTC presentation on Olympics 2nd or 3rd will decide whether bay area will be host - should we get presentation?
· (Dave Schonbrunn) MTC interim TIP on HOV lanes, etc. not allowed under fed regulations, projects are on hold due to conformity lapse. Also they will not adopt new projects, thinking the new riders will appear, but "modeling is bogus".
2 a) Transportation for a Livable Region (TLR) update - Submit your personal Vision of how the Bay Area should look in twenty years through our new online comment form:
http://www.transcoalition.org/tlr/vision_survey.html. Our preliminary list of potential local and regional projects is almost complete, and we will be putting together email working groups to review and provide feedback on the project and program recommendations that will be included in
TLR. Passed around a sign-up sheet, will email list to others not at this meeting
b) BRT
rally, 40 people turned out. TALC and others spoke, incl.
Ammiano, and others. Tribune, CC Times, Mercury News articles can be
viewed on our
website, KQED interview tomorrow.
c) Roadblocks to Health - cooperative project with other social justice groups, studying barriers in low-income neighborhoods. CC County is worst, esp. Monument Corridor area. Health Dept is co-sponsoring media event at Concord Health Clinic. Anyone want to participate? Sign-up sheet passed around.
3 Bridge Toll Increase - prioritize projects tonight (handout given with projects listed), or decide which to oppose. Ezra Rapport is final decision-maker at Senator
Perata's office. They want TALC to be happy about list and publicly support it.
Background: will go to leg. and either be considered a fee or a
tax, and probably be sent to voters for approval.
"Safe Routes to Transit" proposal,
written by TALC along with bicycle coalitions, was
handed out at the meeting. Project criteria and
proposed projects were included in the packet, and
based on this meeting's conversation and feedback
via email, TALC will comment to Perata and
Committee on the proposed projects.
- Group gave feedback yes or no about specific items on lists.
4 Best and Worst Projects Review (Rachel
Peterson)- No release date yet. Next big Smart Growth decision is in January. We will have this on hand just in case, and maybe do this annually. List is still a work-in-progress. (handout given out). All of the projects have been approved, some have been built.
- Group discussed list.
5 TEA-3 (Kristi Kimball ) - Platform paper will be released. Four main policy ideas. Environmental streamlining has taken over the debate on TEA-3. Congressman Young introduced horrible bill - steps backwards. To get involved, or for more info contact Kristi Kimball,
STPP, at:
kkimball@transact.org.
Dec4-7 Field Summit in Salt Lake City, when Nat. League of Cities meets.
