Transportation Equity Advocacy Groups

Transportation and Land Use Coalition (TALC).

> TALC offers Technical Assistance to help community leaders prepare effective policy proposals and focused campaign strategies on local transportation issues such as the need for a children's shuttle service. This service is available on an on-call basis to leaders in low-income and people-of-color communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.
> TALC also conducts Transportation Justice Training Sessions, which are in-depth trainings and presentations on how to participate effectively in Bay Area transportation decision-making for groups representing low-income and people-of-color communities. Training sessions can be tailored to address the local issues faced by individual groups. These training sessions are helpful for community leaders who want to start a children's shuttle program or win other transportation changes in their community.

To request technical assistance or to schedule a training session for your group, contact Jeff Hobson, TALC's Policy Director, at (510) 740-3150 or jeff@transcoalition.org

NOTE: During 2004, Trainings and Technical Assistance will be available to interested groups thanks to the support of an Environmental Justice Planning grant from the California Department of Transportation. TALC is seeking funding to continue these services for 2005 and beyond!

Urban Habitat's Social Equity Caucus (SEC) provides Bay Area social equity and environmental justice organizations with a forum to 1) discuss issues that are disproportionately impacting communities of color, 2) link their local efforts with activities taking place at the regional level, and 3) promote a shared vision for a socially just region. The Caucus also provides technical support to help member groups participate in regional dialogues and to become more effective in lobbying decision makers. For more information, contact the Social Equity Caucus Coordinator at (510) 839-9510 or info@urbanhabitat.org

SEC's Transportation Justice Working Group, in which TALC participates, works on transportation equity issues in the Bay Area and will be able to assist you with your efforts to start a children's shuttle in your community. Contact either TALC or the SEC to learn more about the Transportation Justice Working Group.
