Decision-Making
How We Work

We hold bimonthly regional meetings in San Francisco. Dozens of representatives from TALC’s member groups and community activists from throughout the Bay Area come together to strategize on campaigns and stay up to date and active in the Coalition.

Working groups bring together advocates on individual issues to develop policies and campaigns. When a key issue arises in one of the nine Bay Area counties, TALC sometimes brings together county-wide working groups.

Decision-Making
TALC’s strength depends on our ability to join together around common goals. For major policy decisions, such as taking positions on proposed legislation or adopting new campaigns, TALC actively seeks input from representatives of Member and Affiliate Groups. Each Member and Affiliate Group designates a representative to give TALC feedback through issue-specific surveys, as well as at regional meetings and to the Board of Directors.

Board of Directors
TALC is governed by a Board of Directors made up of representatives of Member Groups. The Board guides TALC’s overall direction and development and meets bimonthly to decide on policy, program, and organizational issues. The Board’s 12 members are elected by the Member Group Representatives to three-year terms, staggered so that one-third of the Board is up for election every year. To maintain the coalition’s cohesion, votes on major policy decisions require ¾ approval. Click here for a current list of Board members.
